For hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years, crystals have been a central part of chakra alignment and healing. Today, crystals are still a very popular choice for both professionals in the field of spiritual healing and for individuals who seek to align their chakras at home. Crystals are relatively inexpensive and very easy to use and understand. This ease is important because it’s possible to affect your chakras in a negative manner if you misunderstand the method you’re using.
Very simply, a chakra is an energy center within the body. They are vibrating, pulsating discs of energy positioned along the spine. These are known as the major chakras, and they’re the most popular. In advanced chakra studies, there are many lesser, smaller chakras all throughout the body. However, most chakra healing therapy focuses on the major chakras, since they have the broadest effect on a person’s life and sense of well-being.
Chakras are believed to control the exit and entrance of energy. Each chakra has very specific attributes, and each one is treated and aligned according to what kind of energy it governs. For example, the brow chakra is associated with the color indigo, a deep blue-purple shade. This chakra governs intuition and feeling. An imbalance in this area may lead to a person mistrusting their intuition, or not sensing things as they once did.
Crystals and Colors of Each Chakra
Each chakra is associated with a specific color, and therefore certain crystals are used to treat each individually. Following is an overview of which color corresponds to each chakra.
Crown chakra (top of head) Violet or White
Brow chakra (forehead) – Indigo
Throat chakra (throat or neck) Blue
Heart chakra (chest) – Green
Solar chakra (beneath the ribcage) – Yellow
Sacral chakra (abdomen) – Orange
Root chakra (base of spine/groin area) – Red or Black
In healing the chakras, a crystal of the appropriate color is used. Each crystal has its own unique vibration, or energy, which is believed to most fully align the chakra it is associated with. The use of the proper crystal is believed to make healing the chakras much more effective.
Crystals for Energy Work
If you feel, or if a practitioner determines, that one or more of your chakras is out of alignment, crystal energy work is a very popular method of correcting this imbalance. Each chakra is connected to certain areas of your life, as well as different areas of your personality. For example, the brow chakra is associated with intuition. If you feel that your intuition is blocked, a practitioner may use an indigo-colored crystal to help align the brow chakra.
There are many different methods of using crystals to heal and align the chakras. A very common way is to simply sit quietly while a practitioner moves the correctly colored crystal over the area of the chakra in need of healing. Many people report feeling a tingling sensation, or a sense of awakening in the area which is being worked on. This is a good sign, indicating that the chakra is being put back into proper alignment so that it can function as it should.
Crystals for Chakra Meditation
Many people choose to work on one chakra at a time, often through visualization. To use crystals for this, you would simply hold and touch the crystal as you meditate upon healing your chakra, concentrating on the color of the crystal the entire time. Visual tools like this are very helpful, making it easier for you to keep your mind on track if it begins to wander during meditation.
Another easy way to do a full-body chakra healing is to arrange the crystals around you while meditating. Simply arrange them in order, then begin to meditate, keeping your eyes on the appropriate crystal as you focus on healing each chakra. For example, to begin, you would keep your eyes focused on a purple or pure white crystal while concentrating on the crown chakra.
As you can see, using crystals for chakra healing is extraordinarily simple, and can add so much to your meditation. Once you know the basics, you can use your crystals whenever you feel that your chakras are out of alignment.
